hi 1877 the first store was opened in Stratford by the late Mr. C. S. Curtis. His “store” was a tent and for his baker’s oven he dug into a sloping bank of a creek near where Pembroke Roadnow joins Mountain Road. Later in the year he bought a section hi Broadway, Stratford, at the first sale of Stratford town sections.
The natural conditions in Taranaki make for sound constitutions among dairy stock. So well is this recognised among the record-making animals that it is generally accepted by farmers from other districts that a well-bred Taranaki cow or bull will do well anywhere.
