RENEWAL ON CONDITIONS
TERMINUS HOTEL LICENSE REPAIRS TO BE CARRIED OUT. DIFFERENT QUARTERS FOR STAFF. The transfer of the license of the Terminus Hotel from Edgar Owen Meredith to Mrs. Laura Faber was granted by the New ■ Plymouth' District Licensing Committee yesterday. The renewal of the license was granted subject to repairs being carried out to the hotel according to specifications submitted to the, committee and the servants being provided with different quarters. When the application came before the committee at the adjourned annual meeting recently” the renewal was opposed by the police, represented by Inspector S. Rrwlfe, on the grounds that the hotel building was allegedl, not in a proper State' of repair. The Ommittee adjourned the application to enable Mr. Brokenshire to have specifications for the. repair of the building prepared by an architect for the committee’s Inspection. Mr. R. J. Brokenshire, who appeared for Mrs. Faber, submitted to the committee that the servants’ quarters were not part of the hotel. Two other hotels at New Plymouth housed their servants in separate buildings which were not considered part of the hotel premises. If the committee was against the present quarters an endeavour would be made to secure other quarters. The committee believed the present servants’ quarters were part of the premises, said the chairman, Mt. W. H. Woodward, S.M., in granting the renewal subject to certain conditions. x Mr. F. S. Grayling represented the mortgagee. The other members of the committee were Messrs. C. E. Bellringer, J. R. Hill and W. F. Jenkins.
