SYDNEY AND THE DUKE
ILLUMINATION EXPERIMENTS. HARBOUR FENCE OF LIGHTS. Three experiments in illumination new to Sydney are being discussed in association with the visit of the Duke of Gloucester, and the illumination committee, it is understood, has sketched a plan to enclose part of the harbour with a fence of lights. The enclosure will be backed in certain place with other lights. The harbour bridge will provide some of these lights and houses along the shore will be gay with many colours. Some people say that no other, part of the world has provided such a sight as Sydney harbour will present when this plan is in operation. Other illuminations talked of that will be unusual will be the lighting of the domain and the Botanic Gardens. Hyde Park will be festooned, and will assist the often illuminated Archibald fountain in making a brilliant display. The statues of Queen Victoria and King Edward will be flooded with light. The statue of Captain Cook, it is expected, will not be overlooked.
