Norris, Conway Road, Eltham, was responsible for the Eltham fire brigade being called out yesterday afternoon. The flames were soon extinguished. Cars collide at Eltham. A five-seater car owned and driven ’by Mr. Cornish, Stratford, was seriously damaged in the fore carriage and the front axle bent in a collision with another car near the Eltham golf links on Sunday night. The visibility was poor owing to light rain and the drivers were apparently dazzled by each others headlights. No-one was injured. PERSONAL ITEMS. Messrs. P. Skoglund, Stratford town clerk, and A. E. Pollock, electrical inspector, left for Wellington yesterday to attend the annual conference of the Electrical Supply Authorities. ELTHAM TALKIES. “FLYING DOWN TO RIO.” Beauty, novelty and music. will greet the eye and ear in practically every minute of the spectacular film, “Flying Down to Rio,” a gorgeous musical extravaganza to be shown at Eltham tonight. Any attempt to list the delightful and thrilling innovations introduced in this production is futile as a full description would call for liberal but honest use of superlatives. Suffice to say that it is one of those films that have to be seen to be appreciated. Dolores Del Rio is the featured star and is very ably supported by Gene Raymond, Paul Roulien, Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, and a cast of 200 Hollywood girls. It is without doubt this year’s best musical film and combines all the elements needed for a first-class entertainment. The supporting programme is excellent.
