POLICE AS DEFENDANTS
CITIZEN LAYS INFORMATION. RETURN OF FIREARMS SOUGHT. It is not often that a sergeant of police and constables are called upon to’ face an information laid by a private citizen, yet such is the case at Stratford. At the next sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Stratford Sergeant T. Kelly and two constables of the Stratford police force will be called upon to answer the claim of Nicholas Benjamin Fryday, J.P., farmer, Ngaere, who is proceeding for the return of .certain firearms and a quantity of ammunition allegedly seized without justification. Mr. Fryday’s collection in his home at Ngaere has already figured in cases heard at the Stratford Court, and the extent to Which he has collected firearms may be gathered from the fact that tire information laid against the police specifies no fewer than six rifles, four revolvers, five shot guns and ammunition. The defendants will be required to appear before the magistrate and show cause why the seized goods should not be restored to the owner.
