ELTHAM SCHOOL CHANGES

SICKNESS AFFECTS ATTENDANCE. OPERATION OF COCOA SYSTEM. The headmaster, Mr. R. E. Thomas, reported to the Eltham school committee on Friday that the average attendance was 329.3 (boys 191.6, girls 137.7). The average for the term ending August 17 was 325.2 (boys 189.5, girls 135.8). School reopened after the term holidays with an attendance of 242 (boys 124, Girls 118). Eighteen pupils were admitted and eight were withdrawn. The present roll number was 359 (boys 202, girls. 157). Owing to measles and whooping cough over 100 pupils were absent. The attendance was less than 75 per/ cent, of the roll number, and therefore would be excepted when computing the average for the term. Changes in staff had taken place. Miss Griffin left at the end of last term and Miss A. Blennerhassett commenced duties as relieving assistant, and Mr. A. C. Walker as additional assistant. Mrs. Reakes wrote stating that the expense of operating the cocoa system for three weeks was 4s 6d, and she would carry on if required.
