At the Epsom races yesterday many prominent spring candidates were in action. The New Zealanders, Radiant Star, Sir Simper, Epigram and Irish Chieftain, won four of the seven events on the card. Sir Simper has now won three races in succession. He led from end to end yesterday, and this was regarded as a most impressive. Caulfield Cup trial. The chief results were:— TRIAL STAKES. RADIANT STAR, 8.1 (Duncan) 1 EL BASSANA, 7.2 (Cox) 2 PLUS FOURS, 7.2 (Morris) 3 Eighteen started. Won by a length and a-quarter, with a length and threequarters between second and third. Won by three-quarters of a length, with a head between second and third. Time, 2m. Bs. King Colossus, who dwelt at the barrier, was last. EPSOM PLATE. For tlie Tattersail’s Club races the weather was fine and the course holding. Topical did not start in the Spring Handicap. Rogilla’s winnings are now within £5OO of £20,000. The results are:— TRAMWAY HANDICAP. ROMAN SPEAR, 7.12 (Zensky) 1 LOUGH NEAGH, 8.11 (Webb) 2 WHITTINGHAM, 8.7 (McCarten) .... 3 Twenty-one started, including Golden Wings, Closing Time, Golden Hair, The Masquerader and Prince Pombal. Won by a head, with half a length between second and third. Golden Gate was fourth and then came Golden Wings, while Closing Time, The Masquerader and Golden Hair were well back. Time, lm. 265. The stewards inquired into Golden Wings’ alleged interference with Cid and Cercello at the start and returned a verdict that it was accidental. CHELMSFORD STAKES. ROGILLA, 9.8 (D. Munro) 1 PETER PAN, 9.11 (J. Munro) 2 GLADSWOOD, 7.3 (Britt) 3 Nine started, including Nightly and Marcus Cicero. Most of the running was made bv The Marne and Gladswood, but Peter Pan, although running unkindly, was always prominent. Rogilla was .last away from the barrier as usual, but made up the lost ground and won full of running by half a length, with two and a-half lengths between second and third. Nightly met interference in the straight from The Marne, but the stewards expressed the opinion that it was accidental. Nightly finished fifth with no sign of lameness. Duke Caledon was seventh. Time, lm. 52%5. Marcus Cicero was last. SPRING HANDICAP. ORO, 8.4 (Cook) 1 W AIK ARE, 7.12 (Weiss) 2 JOURNAL, 7.12 (Knox) 3 Seventeen started, including Limarch, Shatter, Red Rufus and Caliente. Won by five lengths, with half a length between second and third. Limarch was a close fourth and Red Rufus was eleventh. Time, 2m. 6%5. WELTER HANDICAP. KODA PEN. 9.0 (Bartie) 1 BUONAROTTI, .8.7 (Weiss) 2 REGAL SON, 9.11 (Munro) 3 Twenty started, including Deputy Ruler, Martian Chief, Salt Spray and Capris. Won by a neck, with five lengths between second and third. Deputy Rujer was seventh. Time, lm. 40s. In the hurdle race Jayson was fifth. Green Sea won with the crushing burden of 13.7 from Underwood and Newbold Boy. FORT ADELAIDE MEETING. PRINCE PALADON A SECOND. Rec. 6.30 p.m. Adelaide, Sept. 9. At the Port Adelaide races yesterday Prince Paladon finished second in the Quebec Welter of nine furlongs, which was won by Apres. PRINCE EDWARD HANDICAP. Rec. 6.30 p.m. London, Sept. 8. The Prince Edward Handicap resulted: Leonard 1, Solmint 2, Permy-a-Liner 3. Thirteen stai'tod. Half a length; three lengths.
