CRICKET AT KAIMATA

FORMATION OF A CLUB. ENTHUSIASM IN THE DISTRICT. A proposal to form a cricket club was unanimously adopted at a ■well-attended meeting held in • the Kairnata hall on Friday night. Mr. H. K. Riley presided. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. H. K. Riley; vice-presi-dents, a lengthy list was nominated; secretary, Mr. F. Jensen; club coach and selector, Mr. F. Sheppard. A strong committee was formed. It was decided to ask Mr. M. Stieller for permission to use his paddock adjoining the school for practices. It was decided to purchase immediately cricket material, including a roller for the pitch. Several members were enrolled at the meeting. The first practice of the club was held on Mr. Stieller’s property during the week-end, when about 40 players and spectators attended. After bowling and batting practice, Messrs. W. Haigh. and J. Cartwright picked teams and a match was played. This resulted in a win for Mr. Haigh’s team by 46 runs to 40. The recent test cricket matches in Britain have given a fillip to the game in the district, the school children and the adults both being keen to learn. The children are busily engaged in raising funds to purchase a cricket set for ths school. At present they are practising with home-made bats. Personal. Mrs. J. Fraser, Huiroa. who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. L. Dobson, Suffolk Road, has now returned to her home. Mrs. I. V. Burkhart, who has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. P. Burkhart, Junction Road, has returned to Wellington. „ Miss V. L. Mullon spent the week-end at New Plymouth. Miss N. Hunt, Mangaone Road, who has been on an extended holiday, has returned. Mr. I. V. Burkhart visited/ Kairnata at the week-end. Mrs. L. H. Williams, Frankleigh Park, New Plymouth, is the guest of Mbs. L. Dobson. Suffolk Road.
