MANGATOKI BRANCH FACTORY

NEGOTIATIONS FOR PURCHASE. KAPONGA COMPANY'S OFFER. An explanation of the attitude of the Kaponga Lairy Company towards the re-construction of the Mangatoki Dairy Company’s Kaponga branch, which was destroyed by fire was given by the chairman, Mr. A. V. Tait, at the annual meeting on Friday night. The statement was made in reply to Mr. M. F. Voullaire, who asked what part the company had played in the matter. Mr. Tait said that after the fire the directors thought' it would be a good opportunity to see what could be done to eliminate competition. The two boards met and discussed. the . position, the outcome being that Mangatoki asked Kaponga to make an offer. The directors retired while the matter was talked over and Kaponga made its offer. “I thought it was a very good offer,” proceeded Mr. Tait, “and I was not prepared to make it one penny more.” Questioned .further by Mr. Voullaire about the amount of the offer Mr. Tait said that any shareholder could see it at the office.

Mr. R. E. Williams: Is there any truth in the rumour that the Kaponga company tried to prevent Mangatoki from obtaining a license ? Mr. Tait: None whatever.
