DISPUTE WITH ENGLAND
WILD RUMOURS RIFE.
POSITION STILL UNCHANGED. London, Aug. 24. Owing to the absence of newspapers in Dublin on account of the strike, wild rumours are in circulation regarding negotiations for a settlement of. the dispute with England. It was reported that the Dominions’ Secretary, Mr. J. H. Thomas, had visited Ireland to confer with Mr. de Valera, but the former to-day denied that he had done so. He added that the position between the two countries remained unchanged. It is understood that the British -Government is willing to resume negotiations when Mr. de Valera is prepared to acknowledge the Free State’s financial obligations. Emissaries from Dublin with suggestions for overcoming the deadlock have not satisfied the British Government with respect to their credentials.
