PARACHUTE CATCHES STEP DEATH AT AVIATION DISPLAY PILOT FAILS TO SAVE LIFE CROWDS WATCH IN HORROR By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 9 p.m. Paris. Aug. * 7 - The crowd attending an aviation display at Le Mans was horrified to see a girl dangling at the end of a rope 45 feet below an aeroplane. She was Mlle Joan Perrod, a parachutist who had jumped from the plane at an altitude of 1000 feet, but the rope had caught a step projecting from the cockpit. The pilot endeavoured to land without killing the girl and endeavoured to choose a special landing place. He was unsuccessful, however, and she was dashed to pieces before the eyes of the horrified spectators.
