GREAT RADIO EXPANSION

FOUR TIMES TRADING OF 1931. GREAT BRITAIN’S EXHIBITION. British Official Wireless. Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Aug. 16. The radio exhibition, which opened at Olympia to-day, is said to be the largest of its~kind ever held. More than 150 firms are exhibiting the latest developments in wireless receiving sets and their accessories, and about 250,000 visitors are expected to visit the show. This is the fourteenth of these annual exhibitions, and each year they attract larger numbers of home and overseas visitors. Every part of the British Empire and 20 foreign countries were represented among buyers present to-day. The radio industry in Great Britain has developed with remarkable rapidity in the last few years, and it is now reported to have a turnover of £30,000,000 per annum—four times as much as in 1931.

During the first hour after the opening of the exhibition to-day it was stated that £300,000 worth of business had been done. Among the orders booked was one for 300 radio sets for South America.
