SOCIAL EVENTS OF DISTRICT, ‘ > 1 1 —• Owing to the weather the dance organised by Messrs. P. Rodgers and IL Ludeman in aid of the Tarata hall funds was not very well attended. Music was supplied by the Maori String Band from New Plymouth, and extras by Mrs. S. George. The duties of master of cere--7 nies were carried out by Mr< Ludeman and Mr. W. Ludeman was door-keeper. Supper arrangements were carried out by Mesdames ■ Ludeman and Skellern. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr. P. Rodgers and Miss I. Corkill, the runners-up being Mr. A. Walsh and Miss B. George. While Mr. McCabe was travelling to the dance on Tuesday evening conveying the ’ aori String Band he had the misfortune to break a back axle. The orches“ a was conveyed the rest of the journey by Mr. G. Ludeman.. Although it .was a boisterous night there was a representative attendance to farewell Mr. Stan Hutchen. Mr. Corkill, in making a presentation of a set of heir brushes and a leather suitcase, spoke highly, of the good service Mr. Hutchen had given the people of the district and wished him the best of luck in his mew sphere. Several others spoke. Mr. Stan Hutchen replied. Messrs. W. Raven, D. Paterson and H. Lambert entertained with songs. Mr. Corkill was at the piano.
