GERMANY'S DRASTIC ACTION
MARRIED WOMEN LOSE THEIR JOBS Married women are to be removed from the service of the Prussian State unless it is impossible for their husbands to support them. If the married official, who may be a post office clerk or a schoolmistress, does not resign, she will be asked to give particulars about her family income. If, in the opinion of her superiors, a married woman can be maintained without earning her own living, she will be discharged and paid the sum due to her on retirement. The object of this measure is to provide work for men and to put women in what is considered the proper place—the kitchen and the nursery.
