LEVY UPON WOOL OPPOSED
WAIPUKURAU COUNTY COUNCIL.
OBSCURED OUTLOOK OF INDUSTRY.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Waipukurau, Aug. 4.
The Waipukurau County Council passed a resolution to-day as follows:— “That this council, representing the ratepayers and woolgrowers of the Waipukurau County, emphatically protests against any further commitment of the farming industry in the shape of a levy on wool with the'obscured outlook of the overseas markets, and considers that the time is inopportune for experiments or further loadings of the already overburdened and overtaxed industry for a purpose that we, as woolgrowers, consider would bring about no satisfactory results.”
The councillors were unanimous in their condemnation of the proposed levy of 4d per bale for the purpose of scientific research.
The chairman, Mr. A. C. Russell, said that the Prime Minister was trying to bludgeon the Bill through rather prematurely.
