AUROA RESIDENTS MEET
FACTORY ASSISTANT HONOURED. At short notice a large number of friends assembled at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Schwieters on Tuesday evening to congratulate Mr. Cameron on his promotion to the position of first assistant at the Mangawhero Road factory. The evening was spent with euchre and musical and elocutionary items. The card winners were: Men, Mr. B. Benton 1, Mr. T. Blair 2; ladies, Mesdames Symes 1 and Eynon 2. Songs were rendered by Mr. J. J. O’Dea, Mr. F. Schwieters, Miss Eileen O’Dea, elocutionary items by Miss Ernestine Rowlands, Mr. W. B. Bradford and Mr. W. B. Brown. Community singing was also held. The accompanists were Misses Eileen and Annie O’Dea and Mr. J. J. O’Dea. i Mr. Schwieters voiced the pleasure felt by all in learning of Mr. Cameron’s wellearned promotion and the fact that the family were not leaving the district. For two or three years Mr. Cameron had been associated with everything pertaining to the welfare of the district. Mr. Schwieters had been personally associated with Mr. Cameron for several years, first as a co-worker, when he found that he showed wonderful aptitude for his work, and a fine spirit among his men. Mr. Cameron’s position would be hard to fill. Mr. and Mrs. Cameron had helped with every organisation, including the Plunket Society, to foster goodwill, and in all sports, particularly the cricket club, Mr. Cameron had shown initiative. Mr .J. J. O’Dea conveyed congratulations to Mr. Cameron and hoped his promotion would prove a stepping stone to further advances. Mr. O’Dea handed Mr. Cameron a present to remind him of the time spent at the Auroa factory. Mr. A. N. Brown also extended congratulations from the district to, Mr. Cameron and endorsed the others’ remarks. Mr. Cameron returned thanks. General and Personal.
Sister Jutson, one of the Church Army missioners of the Anglican Church, who is visiting New Zealand, delivered an inspirational address to women in the Auroa hall on Friday afternoon when there was a large number present. A successful euchre and dance was held in the Auroa hall on Wednesday night to augment the funds of the branch of the Plunket Society, when there was a good attendance. The prizewinners were: Men, Mr. A. Dunn 1, Mr. H. Buxton 2; ladies, Mrs. Trott 1, Miss F. Brown 2. Mr. H. R. Wood was master of ceremonies and Mrs. Wood provided the dance music, while extras were provided by Miss Vera Rushin. On Thursday night' a' picture suitable for children was screened at Auroa to a good audience, and the proprietor, Mr. Symmans, gave half the proceeds to the school funds. The amount was £2 Bs. The Messrs Stewart, Kaponga, have leased Mrs. Morton’s farm and have settled in their new home.
