ONE OF THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME.—W. J. Wallace, a great full-back and three-quarter of the 1903-04-05-07-08 All Blacks, scored 367 points for New Zealand in five seasons, a record never approached since. In 1903, in the first Test between New Zealand and Australia in Australia, he scored 13 of the 22 points put up for New Zealand. Wallace, as can be seen, sometimes wore a hat when playing at full-back, as protection against the rays of the sun when fielding high kicks. His habit got him into hot water with the more conservative of the critics in England, who considered such attire a violation of tradition.
