WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

Tikorangi: The Tikorangi institute held its monthly meeting at the hall on Wednesday. Mrs. A. Whitehead presided. Mrs. J. Ritchie gave a full and interesting account of the conference. All the remits passed at the conference were read out. She said all who had the opportunity should go to Auckland next year, as these conferences were a splendid education. Miss Irene Foreman, Tikorangi, gave a demonstration, on making light-shades. Two frames were and the various stages of the work shown and explained. The members of the institute agreed to enter for the district federation annual potato competition by planting three of their own potatoes for that purpose. The secretary gave an interesting report on the annual conference. The best darned sock was the monthly competition, the first prize being won by Mrs. Ingram with Mrs. Spink second. Mrs. Nelson Linn gave a report on the Wellington confer-' ence. The competition for a sugar bag mat was won by Miss G. Beech with Miss R. Nicholas second and Mrs. S. Morgan third. The hostesses were Mesdames J. L. Taylor, J. Sheerin and Miss M. Schuher. Mrs. Stewart judged the competition. Taiporohenui: The monthly meeting of the Taiporohenui Women’s Institute was held at Mrs. Panenui’s residence on Tuesday. There was a good attendance and visitors were welcomed from Tawhiti and Ketemarae institutes. Two new members were proposed, Miss Mary.Turu and Mrs. Valentine. Mrs.- Jones, the delegate to the conference at Wellington, presented her report. It was decided to hold a euchre party at the Taiporohenui Hall on Monday, August 6. The competition for the month was an article from one yard of material not to exceed Is. Mrs. W. Adams was judge, placing Mrs. Rangiwahia first and Miss Turu second. During the month a successful bring and buy afternoon was held at the Red Cross rooms. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames R. Campbell and Ruru.
