To speak of policies as specifically Christian can add nothing to their civic quality, and may easily blind men to their civic defects. The Christian Society is ordained to be a manufactory of good citizens, not to attempt the role of a, political party,” said Dr. Hensley Henson, Bishop of Durham, in a recent address, printed in the Bishoprick. “If it be the case that the ultimate root of political oppression and social wrong be the selfishness, pride and hardness of men, then the religion Which makes men unselfish, humble and merciful is bringing to the world the final solution of its worst problems.
