WATER SHORTAGE PERSISTS

Rec. 5.5 pun. Rugby, June 26. There were heavy falls of rain in southern England yesterday and severe thunderstorms broke over London last night. At Bexhill a fall of IJin. was registered, representing about threequarters of the normal aggregate for the whole of June.

Water supplies, however, are still causing anxiety in many parts of the country and the difficult situation that will arise if the serious shortag. of rain persists throughout the summer is the subject of a further circular letter to the local authorities by the Minister of Health. The circular urges the local bodies to formulate immediately plans for meeting any serious shortage in any part of their areas. The circular also urges vigilance on the part of medical officers to make sure of the purity of proposed new emergency sources,. and advises councils to press forward with schemes for permanent supplies.
