Mrs. R. Crush, Lepper Road, will leave by car to-day for a week at Auckland. Miss D. Murfitt has returned from a holiday at Wellington. Mrs. F. Barnard entertained at her home on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. J. Green, Waitara, is the guest of her mother, Mrs. Corkhill, Tarata. Mrs. H. Drake returned on Thursday from Wellington. Miss J. Feaver was hostess at a young people’s house-warming party at her parents’ new home on Wednesday evening. Mrs. O’Carroll spent last week-end with her daughter, Mrs. Darcy Cameron, Hawera.

Mesdames W. N. Willan; and B. M. Dust have returned to Ratapiko after a visit to Wanganui.

Mesdames Winter, Cutfield, Roch, J. Ross, Birch Johnston and Miss K. Coles were visitors to Stratford on Saturday night for the community sing. Miss K. Zimmerman, Urenui, has returned home after spending the weekend with relatives at Inglewood. Miss Grace Peters, Kent Road, is spending a holiday at Waverley and Wanganui as the guest of Mrs. J. Nicholls.

Mrs. Kaye, Inglewood, president of the Federation of Women’s Institutes, was entertained by members of the division on Wednesday at the Hawera show. At the residence of Miss Trimble on Thursday evening the members of the W.E.A. met. Pictures of the artists Morland and Constable were studied and discussed.

Visiting presidents ,at the Tariki Institute’s birthday party this week were Mesdames Kaye, Adnams, W. Brown, Allen (Normanby) and Mrs. Bloor. At the Norfolk Road school yesterday Miss V. Macmillan was lecturing most of the day on different subjects, and in the evening members of the Norfolk Road Women’s Institute entertained at a social for Miss Macmillan. Mrs. C. Feaver and Miss E. Brown were hostesses at a flag bridge evening on Monday in the parish hall to raise funds for the Anglican Ladies’ Guild. Mesdames Winter, Cameron, Judd, McAlister and Wanklyn were the guests of Mrs. Weston, New Plymouth, who gave a delightful afternoon in honour of Miss Pattrick and Miss Fitzgibbons, visiting Plunket delegates.

Mesdames G. Davidson and Roskilley, who have been spending a few weeks with Mrs. F. Camferon, have returned to Christchurch.

Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Bishop, Egmont Village, gave a birthday party on Monday evening to celebrate the coming-of-age of their daughter Jean at the Mon Desir, New Plymouth. Singing and. dancing were enjoyed. Miss Jean Martin and Mr. Basil Hirst’s songs were greatly enjoyed. Mr. C. Cotton Stapleton proposed Miss Bishop’s health, and Mr. Hirst suitably replied. There was a large gathering of members of the Women’s Institute on Wednesday afternoon when Dr. Doris Gordon, Stratford, gave a lecture on several interesting subjects. The hostesses were Mesdames Kennedy, Keenan, King, Lovell and Lightfoot.

The Women’s Division held its annual euchre party and dance in the Inglewood town hall recently, when a very enjoyable time was spent by the large number present. Martin’s Orchestra supplied the music and a ladies’ committee the supper. The Monte Carlo was won by Mrs. Dodunski and Mr. Gee. Mrs. J. Dodunski won first prize at euchre, with Mrs. Bishell second.
