PLAY READING EVENING
DRAMA LEAGUE CIRCLES. Another of the series of play-reading evenings conducted by thi. circles comprising the Central Taranaki group of the British Drama League was held in the Masonic Hall on Friday night, Mr. A. H. R. Amess, a member of the area council, presiding. There was an attendance of about 40 members.
Supper was served at the conclusion of I the play-reading, which was followed by dancing. . “The Will,” a three-part play by J. M. Barrie, was read. The cast was: Mr. Devize, senior partner in a legal firm, Mr. J. Cormick; Robert, his son, junior partner, Mr. A. H. R. Amess; Surtees, the clerk, Mr. W. S. Sheppard; Mr. Ross, a client, Mr. B. P. Bellringer; Mrs. Ross, Mrs. A. H. R. Amess.
“The House With the Twisty Window,” a one-act play by Mary Parkington, was also read. The cast was: James Roper, K.C., Mr. N. H. Moss; Charlie
Cline, Mr. H. L. Von Sturmer; Lady Ponting, Miss Ena Cartwright; Heather Sorrell, Miss Evelyn Cartwright; Anne Sorrell, Miss M. Smart; Derrick Moore, Mr. B. P. Bellringer; Stefan, Mr. D. A. Benjamin.
“The Busy Morning,” a one-act play by Hazel Marshall was read. The cast was: Dolly (an actress), Mrs. E. McCullough; Emily (her maid), Miss C. Uniacke; Bobby (her husband), Mr. H. L. Von Sturmer; Clarence (her lover), Mr. D. A. Benjamin. Miss E. Moon provided the dance music.
