DRAFTING of local bill
EXCHANGE OF LAND PROPOSED.
SANDERS’ RHODODENDRON DELL.
Under the title of the “New Plymouth Borough Land Exchange and Empowering Act 1934,” the Borough Council intends to introduce a local Bill at the forthcoming session of Parliament to effect an exchange of land between Pukekura Park and the Taranaki Jockey Club’s property. The club will acquire the right to two pieces totalling 3 roods 16 perches, on one of which the house of the club’s caretaker now stands, and which has been used for some years under an arrangement with the Park Board. The park committe, through the Borough Council, will receive in excnange a piece of bush comprising 1 acre 2 roods 16 perches, to be added to the Brooklands property. Another provision of the Bill relates to the Sanders’ bequest “for the purpose of enlarging and improving the existing rhododendron' dell in Pukekura Park. The council has in view a much more favourably situated site for rhododendrons on land partly in the park and partly in Brooklands. It is with the object of enabling the council to spend the money on the establishment of rhododendron dell on this ground that a clause has been inserted in the proposed legislation.
