TUG-OF-WAR AT OAONUI
McDougall shield contest. Splendid entries have been received for the three nights’ tug-of-war competitions to be held in the Oaonui hall. Seven entries are from ladies’ teams for an event on the second night. The committee has arranged a prize list attractive not only to the strong men along the coast but from places further afield. The McDougall Shield itself is a much-valued trophy and the honour attached to the winning of jt would be a sufficient reward to many. The organisers have decided to add £25 in cash, the winning team to receive £l5, runner-up £7 10s and a consolation of £2 10s. Such prizes should draw all the best teams in the district, and with several at the peak of their form some great struggles will be witnessed. After the finals on Friday a dance will be held. Nominations for the tournament will close with the secretary, Mr. C. H. Bishop, at the hall at 7.30 p.m. to-night.
