"BLACK LIST” OF EMPLOYERS
REPORT TO DUNEDIN ASSOCIATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, May 31. At a meeting of the Vocational Guidance Association last evening an officer presented a black list of a few bad employers. One master, he stated, had six boys for periods of 18 months. When a wages increase was due the boy was paid off and another was engaged, thus throwing lads on the labour market at 19 years of age. Another bad case was the long hours worked by boys employed for one milk vending firm. They started at 3.30 a.m. and worked till lunch on the milk run, then spent the afternOn till 4 o’clock collecting accounts. These boys received 12s 6d weekly, plus 5s extra for account collecting. The officer added, however, that such cases were exceptional, and were mentioned to show that the association was alive to the situation.
