JERSEY BREEDERS MEET

STRATFORD CLUB’S REUNION. TOAST LIST AND SOCIAL NIGHT. The opportunity to forget the price of butter-fat and the mortgage question was granted a large gathering at the annual reunion social and dance of, the Stratford Jersey Cattle Club last night. The reunion was held as part of Taranaki Jersey Week. Mr. H. J* Kaye (Huinga), president of the club, presided over an attendance of more than 100. Visitors were present from many parts of New Zealand and other Taranaki districts. The toast list was as follows: The King; The Jersey Breeders’ Association, proposed by Mr. H. A. Hunt (Midhirst), responded to by Mr. Truby King (Stratford); Kindred Associations, proposed by Mr. T. R. Anderson (Mahoe), replied to by Mr. A. O’Sullivan (Cardiff), and Mr. C. A. Marchant (Cardiff); The Visitors, proposed by Mr. D. O’Sullivan (Inglewood), replied to by Messrs. C. Kirkby (Hastings) and H. Toose (Wellington). In proposing the toast of the association Mr. H. Hunt paid a tribute to the men at the head of the Jersey Breeders’ Association. There were over 90 per cent, of the Dominion’s cattle of predominant Jersey blood, he said. He mentioned how production had gone ahead by leaps and bounds and suggested that that may have had something to do with the suggested quota. Mr. King in replying stressed the efforts made by the association for the assistance of breeders, mentioning C.O.R. test subsidies. Mr. King thought the embargo should be lifted to permit the Importation of new blood.
