TROTS AT HAMILTON

WAIKATO CLUB'S VENTURE F. J. SMITH S GOOD BRACKET. RINGTRUE AND KEWPIE'S KING. (Special to News.) Auckland, May 11. The promotion of a two days’ meeting by the Waikato Trotting Club has proved successful, if the fine list of acceptances is any criterion. The racing should be full of interest. A large number of visiting horses are listed and they will test the best of the provincial pacers and trotters in their respective races. If the weather remains fine the track at Claudelands should be in good order for the opening of the meeting to-day. ", In the Waikato Handicap F. J. Smith holds a strong hand with Chancellor, who was second in the Hawera Cup, and Wee Machine, winner of the Cambridge Cup. Both horses are in fine form and should take a good deal of beating. Free Logan will be dangerous, while Gumdigger, Realty and Smooger are at least possibilities. Good sprinters are engaged in the Dominion Handicap, and Jackie Thorpe, Linella, Realty, Donum, Free Logan, Smooger and Brentlight all hold good prospects. Many improving novices are listed for the Improvers’ Handicap, the best perhaps being Aircraft, Florrie Reel, Nelson Luvan, Pedlar, Rayon d’Or, Student Prince, Shoreleave. Shining Metal and Tryment. A second race of similar class is the Waipa Handicap and additions to those previously mentioned —Bismuth, Play Lady and Kewpie’s Bond—will make it very interesting. In the Raglan Handicap Ringtrue will be at a short price, but he has some solid rivals, notably All Worthy, Betterwin, Lady Fame, Goldworthy, Aerial Boy and Nobleman. Ringtrue also figures in the Farewell Handicap, in which Kewpie’s King will give him trouble.- If Ringtrue earns a penalty Smith’s colt will be a good fancy. Others with prospects are Eddystone, Min. Bells, Flintlock, Aerial Boy and Alexis.

There is only one event for the trotting brigade, the Progressive Handicap, but it has drawn a fine field, and there should be a great race between Young Rodney, Te Kahu, Harvest Dillon, Ohinemutu, Gala Day and Manna’s Son. The following may find support in their respective races:— Improvers’ Handicap: Aircraft, Nelson Luvan, Pedlar.

Progressive Trot: Te Kahu, Ganton, Harvest Dillon.

Waikato Handicap: Smith’s bracket, Smooger, Free Logan. Raglan Handicap: Ringtrue, Betterwin, Nobleman.

Waipa Handicap: Kewpie’s Bond, Bismuth, Student Prince. Dominion Handicap: Donum, Jackie Thorpe, Free Logan. Farewell Handicap: Kewpie’s King, Alexis, Ringtrue.
