MEETING OF THE FIRE BRIGADE.

. The monthly meeting of the Kaponga volunteer fire brigade was held at the fire station on 'Tuesday night when Superintendent A. MelvlUe presided. There was a good attendance of members. Reference was made to the recent big fire in which the dairy factory was destroyed, the superintendent remarking that it was the biggest fire the brigade had been called out to for many years. The brigades gear stood the test well but, owing to the building being more than half destroyed before the alarm was given, it had not been possible to effect a save. Some damage was occasioned the hose leads by the heat The second series of fortnightly dances held by the combined Hockey dubfl took place in the Parish Hall on Tuesday night There was a good attendance .and music was played by Miss M.' Guy (Matapu). Messrs V. Betts and R. Noonan officiated as M.C.’s. Supper arrangements were controlled by Mrs. W. Carrington, assisted by members of the clubs. A log cabin |Stetue dance was won by Mr. J. H. and Miss I. Melville. Vital statistics at Kaponga for the month of April show that there were six births, no deaths and two marriages.
