Gloag were joint masters of ceremonies. The social opened with a brief welcome address by the Rev. K. Watson, and community singing led by Mr. R. Gloag. Then followed games, interspersed with musical items as follows: Miss M. Grant, piano solo; Miss J. MacEwen, Mr. D. Pope, piano duet; Miss P. Gane, song; Mr. R. Gloag, song; and Mr. D. Wards, recitation. Towards the end of the evening the Rev. J. Ryburn spoke on behalf of the visiting classes, and Mr. R. Thrush on behalf of the Normanby class. The catering and dispersing of supper were done by the young ladies of Normanby under the leadership of Miss P. Gane. “DANCING LADY” AT OPERA HOUSE “MIDNIGHT CLUB” NEXT CHANGE. Joan Crawford and Clark Gable are the stars of “Dancing Lady” to be shown finally to-night at the Hawera Opera House. The actress, who has good looks of an unusual kind, is better known as the portrayer of dramatic parts, but in this picture she appears' as a star dancer and shows remarkable versatility, for she is in fact a really good dancer, diver and swimmer, while she handles the more dramatic parts of her role with her usual ability. Clark Gable plays another of his “strong silent men” parts and plays it well and with an absence or theatricality. . “Midnight Club,” an Oppenheim thriller, starring Clive Brook, will open its season to-morrow night.
