GREAT RECOVERY IN FINAL

GOLF TOURNAMENT AT FORMBY. WIN FOR CITY BUSINESS MAN. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec, 7 p.m. London, April 28. Lunt defeated Crawley in the final of the Formby golf tournament, the match going to the 37th green. Lunt, who is a Birmingham business man, had previously played in some championships but had never before reached a final victory, which was due to his dramatic recovery. Crawley was four up at the end of the first nine holes. Lunt was obviously nervous and fluffed a number of simple shots. Crawley was six up at the end of the first round in 76 to 81. After lunch the whole outlook changed, Lunt winning four of the first nine holes in 4,4, 4,4, 2. Crawley, now shaken, began to find the bunkers troublesome, but held a three hole lead to the turn. The game swung round at the 30th. Lunt drew square at the 35th and the next was halved. A huge gallery was most excited as they tackled the 37th. Crawley lost through a pulled second, Lunt having a perfect four. Earlier results were:—Sixth round: S. Jacobs, Blackpool, beat Bentley, 1 up; Crawley beat A. Walton, 1 up; Hunt beat Lucas 4 and 3; Thirsk beat Todd, 1 up. Semi-finals: Crawley defeated Jacobs, 3 and 1; and Hunt defeated Thrisk, 1 up.
