CANDLE IGNITES BENZINE

AUCKLAND HOUSE SET AFIRE. OCCUPIER SUFFERS INJURY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The upsetting of a bottle of benzine near a lighted candle on Saturday evening caused bums to the arm of T. A. Grant, Grey Lynn, and set fire to the house. Mr. Grant was pouring some benzine into a bottle on a work bench under the house when the bottle toppled over, spilling the contents. The benzine was ignited by the fumes reaching the candle. Mr. Grant, whose left arm was burned by bepzine which was spilled on it, immediately rushed to a street signal and gave the alarm. The interior of the workshop under the house was gutted and the flames had just begun to penetrate the floor above and to travel up the outside wall when they were extinguished. The injured man was taken to the Auckland hospital.
