MISSIONS IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The work that is being done by the Society of Mary in its chain of 80 Catholic missions about the South Pacific, particularly in its leper station on Makogai Island, were brought strongly to the minds of a large gathering at Wellington this afternoon through the speeches at the laying of the foundation stone of a new convent of the order. The cermony was performed by Archbishop RedwoodThe new convent building, the site of which is at Aurora Terrace, is designed as a novitiate for training New Zealand girls for missionary work in the Pacific ' Islands and as a rest home for those engaged in the. work.
