NEW PLYMOUTH TRACK
AMYRIL’S GOOD FIVE FURLONGS. ROYAL REIGN IMPROVING. The tracks at New Plymouth were in excellent order for the work on Saturday morning, when most of the horseswith engagements at Hawera on Wednesday were galloped. All the fast work was done on the course proper with the flags well out. Leo Colossus, who was having his first gallop since the Feilding meeting, sprinted half a mile in 52 4-55., moving in good style. Matomi gave Windscreen a length start at the five furlongs post and beat the filly home comfortably by a length in Im. s|s. Matorni carried out his task in an attractive fashion and should, show up in the hack events at Hawera. Amyril and Orapai were responsible for the best five furlongs for some time when they ran that distance in Im. 41s. with the former slightly in front at the finish. Amyril has improved lately, and this gallop showed that she is fast approaching her best form. Orapai also went well and lost none of his admirers by his effort. Count Lendroff and Prince Colossus were to have gone five furlongs but the former broke away too soon and ran once round alone. Gold Mission was then brought out and she and Prince Colossus were associated over five furlongs in Im. 615., with Prince Colossus going strongly at the end. He has done everything that has been asked of him of late and is sure to carry good support on Wednesday. Royal Reign was cantered once round on the inside and then allotted an easy working gallop over a round. She pulled up well, her leg showing signs of lameness. Headmistress did strong pace work on the inside, hitting out freely. Jacana, Spender, Greatful and Merry Way did useful tasks.
