HARRIER CLUB’S RUN

MEMBERS AT MOTUROA. Twenty-eight members attended the weekly club run of the New Plymouth harriers from the Moturoa school on Saturday and participated in a run of about five miles. Before the commencement of the run a short sprint of about 100 yards was made, this being a common practice in the Wellington harrier clubs. The pacemakers, A. Thompson and S. Rosser, led off down to the Ngamo'tu. beach which was followed as .far as the rowing club shed. From there the, run led round to the beach at the back of Paritutu, and then round the back of the oil bore, coming out on Beach Road. The road was followed to South Road, where a halt was called. From there the runner!; split into two parties, one going home via Pioneer Road and the other via South Road. Next Saturday the. first race, a sealed, handicap, will be run from the racecourse at 2.30 p.m. POPULAR RUNNER LEAVES. MR. L. E. FOX FAREWELLED. .. Mr. L. E. Fox, a prominent ■ official and ■ member of the New Plymouth Harrier Club, was farewelled by a party from • the club, including the captain and secretary, on the New Plymouth railvzay station on Saturday, The occasion was the departure of Mr. Fox for Christchurch, where he will in future reside. The captain (Mr. R. J. Stewart) in making a presentation to Mr. Fox, spoke-of the great loss the club suffered in losing such an excellent runner and enthusiastic and hard-working committeeman. Members expressed their regret at the loss and added their good wishes fop Fox.
