TIE IN RIFLE SHOOTING

KAPONGA AND OKATO DRAW. A tie, 745 points each, was the result of a match for the Taranaki Associated Rifle Clubs’ Challenge Shield fired on the Seaview range, Okato, on Saturday between Kaponga and the Okato branch of the New Plymouth Defence Rifle Club. Seven shots were fired at 300, 500 and 600 yards. Conditions were only fair, a fish-tail wind and light showers making things difficult for the marksmen. J. F. McCarthy and D. Hollard, Kaponga, missed their centuries by one point only. McCarthy, shooting the most consistently, obtained 33 at each range. Possibles were obtained at 500 yards by E. Izett and D. Hollard. The Kaponga visitors were entertained at luncheon by the Okato branch. The scores were:— OKATO.
