KAHUI ROAD THE WINNER. MANY EVEN CONTESTS SEEN. Intense excitement prevailed in the Rahotu hall on Saturday night, when a packed house displayed much enthusiasm during the tug-of-war tournament under the auspices of the Rahotu Bowling Club. As a result the club improved its financial position by about £2O. Those chiefly responsible for the arrangements were: Organiser, Mr. E. Whittle; secretary, Mr. T. C. Farquhar; judge, Mr. D. Readon; starter and timekeeper, Mr. W. Gunson; announcer, Mr. H. Annis. Items which were much enjoyed were given at intervals by the Misses Murray and Mr. Bunbury. ' Details of the contest ard!—‘ Third Round. (Two-life). Kahui Road’, 54st. 11b., defeated Schnapper Gang, 54st. 101 b., by about 7 inches. Pungarehu defeated. Rahotu, 54st. 121 b., by 34 inches after a good pull. Cape Egmant a bye. (One-life.) Oakura B, 54st. 61b., defeated Runana after a close contest. Waiokura, 54st. 41b., comfortably defeated Tipperary, 555 t., by 4 inches. Oakura A, 555 t., defeated All Seniors, 54st. 21b., by 14 inches without once losing the light. Arawhata, 54st. 81b., defeated Haupoto 54st. 121 b., by a very slight margin. The indicator was continually changing and the pull proved very exciting. Taurangi, 54st. 121 b., defeated Te Kiri, 54st. 31b., winning comfortably by 7 inches. Fourth Round. (Two-life.) Kahui defeated Cape Egmont, 54st. 21b., by one inch after even pulling. (One-life.) Rahotu defeated Schnapper Gang after gaining the lead at the beginning and holding it to win by four inches. Waiokura defeated Oakura B easily by 8 inches. Arawhata defeated Oakura A by 6 inches. The indicator showed against the winners at first, but with a good effort they reversed the position for a good win. Taurangi a bye. Fifth Round. ■ (Two-life.) Kahui defeated Pungarehu by 2 inches amid great excitement. (One-life.) Cape Egmont defeated Taurangi by one inch after an even pull. Rahotu defeated Waiokura by a very small margin. This pull was evenly contested. Arawhata a bye. ~ - Sixth Round. (One-life.) Pungarehu defeated Arawhata. After losing the light at the start Pungarehu gradually gained the ascendancy to win narrowly. In the next pull Rahotu took the lead from the whistle and held it to win by one inch from Cape Egmont. Seventh Round. (One-life.) Rahotu narrowly defeated Pungarehu after much even pulling. This eliminated Pungarehu from the finals, giving it third place. In the final Kahui Road, with R. Fleming skipper and L. Todd anchor, defeated Rahotu, with C. Looney skipper and L. Pepperell anchor by about one inch. The winner immediately took the lead and held its slight advantage throughout, though not until time sounded could it be sure of its win. At the conclusion Mr. Whittle presented the prizes to the respective winners, at the same time thanking competitors and all those who were in any way responsible for tne success of the carnival.
