LARGE RECENT INCREASE I MONTH’S ARRIVALS A RECORD. COOL STORE STOCKS REDUCED. MARGARINE SALES SUFFERING. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 6.30 p.m. London, April 28. The butter position shows little change. Consumption remains good, and though imports in March were nearly 47,000 tons, a new monthly record, there has been a slight reduction in cold-stored stocks. How the consumption of butter has increased in late years at the expense of margarine was shown in a speech by the chairman of one of the great margarine producing companies, who said the yearly consumption of butter per head of the population had steadily risen, from 16.71 b. in 1928 to 23.91 b. in 1933, while irj. the same period the consumption of margarine decreased from 13.21 b. to 8.41 b.
