AUSTRALIAN SUPPORT ASKED
REEFTON GOLDMINERS SEEK RISE. SPECIAL VISIT MADE TO SYDNEY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, April 27. The support of Australian workers for the Reefton quartz miners who have been on strike for the past ten weeks, seeking the restoration of the 10 per cent, cut and improved working conditions, is the mission of Messrs. P. C. Webb and J. O’Brien, West Coast members of Parliament, who are Laving today for Sydney. Their purpose is endorsed by the New Zealand Labour Party. Possibly later they will be joined by Mr. R. Semple, M.P. Interviewed, Mr. Webb pointed out that when the cut was imposed in 1931, the price of gold was £3 18s an '"unce. Now, following the rise in prire and also the exchange premium, it was about £8 after deducting gold tax. Moreover, the value of some company shares had risen from 4s to 35s 4d. There has been no rise in the miners’ pay.
