COST OF MILK SUPPLY

AUCKLAND BOARD DECISIONS. PRICES AFTER MILK WAR. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Auckland Milk Council to-day considered a letter from the Hospital Board, which recently was notified that the price of its milk would be raised from 7d to 14d per gallon. The board asked for a reduction on account of the large consumption and said that it was considering seriously the advisability of providing its own supply. The chairrhan of the council said the price fixed by the council was only a Id more than the board had been paying before the milk war began. The board had had the benefit of an extremely low contract price due to the price cutting. He considered the request for a concession on account of quantity used was reasonable. Another member said that the board might easily find that taken over a whole year its milk would cost Is 6d.

It was decided to consider the letter when the council is fixing prices. The same course was taken with eleven separate protests, chiefly from school committees. Members pointed out that those protesting knew little or nothing of the cost of production. They characterised the allegation that high prices had reduced consumption by 10 per cent, as nonsense.
