Mr. J. R. Hill, New Plymouth, has bsen appointed a member of the New Plymouth Licensing Committee. The Bishop of Polynesia, the Rt. Rev. L. S. Kempthome, left New Plymouth for Christchurch yesterday morning. Mr. S. E. Shaw has been appointed to the vacancy on the directorate of the New Plymouth Sash and Door Company caused by the death of Mr. J. S. Connett. After holding office for six years as Governor of South Australia, Sir Alexander Hore-Ruthven has sailed for England, says an Adelaide cable. The London Missionary Society has appointed the Rev. H. Leonard Hurst, district secretary of the North-west Counties since 1929, to succeed the Rev. Mr. Williams as secretary in Australia and New Zealand, states a London cable. The Moturoa school committee has decided to write expressing its thanks to Sister M., Corkill, Red Cross nurse, for the work she had done at the school. The headmaster (Mr. W. R. Adams) made special mention of her good work at the monthly meeting of the committee. Members of the Loyal Egmont Lodge, M. and friends met at the Kawaroa Park bungalow, New Plymouth, on Thursday night to farewell Mr. S. Watson on the eve of his departure for pahiatua. Several speakers, including the Taranaki district grand master, Bro. H. A. Bennett, paid tribute to the work done by Bro. Watson during his terms of office in the order, and on behalf of his own lodge P.D.G.M. S. Bollon made a presentation of a gold-mounted fountain pen. The death occurred this week of Mr. William S. Moore, Arthur Street, Onehunga, aged 67 years. Mr. Moore was bom at Auckland and purchased a business at Hawera 39 years ago. returning to Onehunga ten years later, he took over the boot and shoe business of Mr. Albert Hughes in Queen Street, and in 1912 erected larger premises, comprising a shop and factory, nearer Church Street. He retired some nine years ago. In his younger days Mr. Moore was a prominent athlete, being well-known as a sprinter and boxer. While at Hawera he took an interest in the volunteer movement and was an officer of the Taranaki Rifle Brigade. A crack shot, Mr. Moore was a past-president of the Akarana Rifle Club. In his later years he became an enthusiastic member of the Onehunga Bowling Club. He leaves a widow and two children, Mr. Matthew J. Moore and Miss Nancy Moore.
