BOY SHOT IN BACK
ACCIDENT IN CANOE. I ' . .. I CONDITION REPORTED SERIOUS. I Hamilton, April 22. i A boy, George Welch, 'aged 13 years, the son of Mr. Alfred Welch, WhataI whata. was accidentally shot in the back j near Whatawhata to-day. The boy, with I his brother, Charles Welch, and another I boy, Carpenter, was shooting rabbits I from a canoe in the Waipa River, f° ur miles down-stream from Whatawhata. I Charles Welch was passing the pea-rifle ; from one side of the canoe- to the other when it was discharged, and the bullet ; entered his brother’s back. • Welch was admitted to the Waikato i Hospital in a serious condition. At a late hour to-night it was reported that his condition was unchanged.
