PAINTING OF PORTRAIT

PRINCE EXCELLENT SITTER. PICTURE BY MARCHIONESS. London, April 11. A portrait of Prince George has been completed , by the Marchioness .of Queensberry, formerly Miss Catherine Mann. It has been forwarded to the Royal Academy for the next exhibition. The Marchioness, who is a member of the Royal Society* of Portrait Painters, says: “The sittings were arranged as the result of a mutual friend’s suggestion. The Prince was so busy that he could afford, only five sittings, each of threequarters of an hour. Nevertheless, he was an excellent sitter. “Prince George is the one member of the Royal family who is particularly interested in art. He is very critical, but his criticisms are sound. He showed remarkable accuracy in spotting technical faults. “I think that, except for a previous portrait which I commenced, but did not finish, because I disliked it, the Prince has been painted only once before.”
