TARATA FARMERS’ UNION
MEMBERSHIP WELL MAINTAINED. SUCCESSFUL YEAR REPORTED. A successful year’s activity was reported at the annual meeting of the Tarata branch of the Farmers’ Union last night. The retiring president, Mr. H. Lavell, stated that membership had held up remarkably well during the year and that the balance-sheet showed a credit of £lO Ils 6d. Lectures had been delivered before members on matters of interest to the farming community. It was decided to increase the prize money for the competition for the greatest number of white butterflies caught by Tarata children to £1 10s.
The following . officers were elected: President, Mr. J. Burgess; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. Lavell and J. Smith; secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. W. Goodwin; committee, Messrs. L. A. Wicksteed, G. C. Rutherford, R. Lambert, A. J. Webb, J. Drummond, L. George, H. Crowe, A. Muir, P. Swan, H. Watkins, D. Mounsey; delegates, Messrs. Burgess and Goodwin; .auditor, Mr. J. Simmons. Mr. H. E. Blyde, president of the North Taranaki executive, prefacing his address to the branch on the activities of the union, congratulated members on the success of their activities. At the conclusion of the meeting a formal motion of protest against the existing extension of summer-time was agreed to.
