FAREWELLS TO MR. A. GRANT

INGLEWOOD RESIDENT LEAVING. Members of the Inglewood Club gathered on Friday night to farewell Mr. A. Grant, who has been transferred to Ashburton. Mr. F. J. Cameron presided? On behalf of the members Mr. Cameron said the departure of Mr. Grant would be deeply regretted, but all joined in congratulating him on his promotion. Mr. Cameron asked Mr. Grant to accept a travelling rug and \ wished Mr. and Mrs. Grant and family every happiness. . Other speakers were Mr. W. J. Smith (Chamber of Commerce), Mr. Torrens (bank staffs), Mr. Byrne (county members) and Mr. W. J. Winfield (“old associations”). Mr. Grant briefly thanked the members for their generous gift. At the Inglewood public school on Friday afternoon the : committee and members of the staff met to farewell Mr. Grant, who was chairman of the committee. Mr. Wanklyn presided and said all regretted the departure of such an ardent worker in school affairs. Not only the school committee, said Mr. Wanklyn, would be the poorer for the loss of Mr. Grant, but the townspeople as a whole, for he had been a worker for all clubs and committees with which he had been associated. On behalf of the committee he presented to Mr. Grant a fountain pen. Mr. Brown, headmaster, on behalf of the staff endorsed Mr. Wanklyn’s remarks, adding that the relation between the committee and staff had always been happy, due largely to Mr. Grant’s ability as chairman.

Mr. Grant in reply referred to the loyal co-operation of his fellow members and the staff.

The members of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church choir gathered oh Friday night to farewell Mrs. and Miss Grant, who have been members for a number of years. The Rev. Mutter presided and said Mrs. and Miss Grant had always worked whole-heartedly for the choir and in all church gatherings. He hoped that they would continue to take a keen interest in church matters in their new town.

Accident to Mayor. The Mayor of Inglewood, Mr. J. Gibbs, slipped on the step of a building on Friday afternoon, falling heavily and receiving slight head injuries, with which he is at present confined to his bed.
