BIG AMPHIBIAN MISSING

SHANGHAI TO CANTON MAIL LOST IN FOG OVER HANCHOW WIRELESS MESSAGES STOP 31-HOUR SEARCH A FAILURE By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Shanghai, April 11. A 36-hour search over the sea by air has failed to locate a huge Sikorsky amphibian, which disappeared while carrying mail from Shanghai to Canton. The last wireless message from the plane stated that it was lost in the fog over Hanchow Bay and was attempting to return to Shanghai. The wireless ceased suddenly. Searching planes and tugs were handicapped by fog. The Sikorsky carried two American pilots and one Japanese passenger. This is the second disaster which has befallen the Shanghai-Canton air mail. Last November the initial flight was marked by tragedy when a Sikorsky plane crashed on a mountain on an island in the same locality due to fog.
