ELTHAM METHODISTS. NEW MINISTER INDUCTED. The Rev. H. Spencer was inducted to the Eltham-Kaponga Methodist circuit at Eltham on Wednesday, the Rev. Copeland conducting the service, assisted by the Rev. T. Skuse. Mr. Copeland referred to the difficulties of Christian work and pointed out that every worker should feel inspired with the fact that he had been matched against such difficult conditions. Mr. Skuse appealed for the loyalty and devotion of the congregation and said it was they who could assist or retard the success of the minister’s labours. At the conclusion of the induction service the congregation adjourned to the Wesley Hall, where a social evening was held. Addresses of welcome were given by the circuit stewards, Messrs. L. Pinny and N. C. Davies, the Rev. J. H. Ry burn, Adjutant Parkinson, Mr. F. Gawies and Mrs. W. H. Reynolds. Items were contributed by Mrs. A. Symmans, Mrs. Sybil Pennington, Mrs. H. Gubb, Mr. W. H. Reynolds and Mr. G. Anderson.

ELTHAM DISTRICT JUBILEE. PROCESSION OF OLD VEHICLES. Comprehensive reports on the progress of preparations for the Eltham district jubilee celebrations next month were submitted to a meeting of the general committee on Wednesday. Mr. Leo Quin said the procession depicting the evolution of transport from the early times to the present day had been arranged and would include bullock teams, pack horses, old milk carts and modem vehicles. Three members of the original survey party, Messrs. Skinner, Feakins and Ward, had agreed to take part carrying their survey instruments, while a miniature car, two aeroplanes, eccentric cars, women riders on side saddles, and a cab would be other features. Every effort would be made to make the procession memorable. It was arranged that aeroplane flights be made for passengers. Mr. A. G. Whiting submitted a full programme for the gala day. Mr. C. H. White stated that 45 exhibitors would participate in the display. A visitors’ book would be kept for visitors to record their names. Mr. F. Lynch said the concert programme was progressing well and two plays were to be staged. The orchestra was practising and costumes had been selected. The secretary was instructed to make inquiries regarding a special train from New Plymouth.

COUNTRY CRICKET MATCH. NGAERE BEATS FRASER ROAD. On the first innings Ngaere defeated Fraser Road in a rural cricket match. GENERAL ITEMS. As eastern districts did not send a team to Stratford yesterday to play the Stratford Ladies’ Hockey Club, the local teams held a practice match.. The Stratford men’s club had the opening practice of the. season, there being nearly a complete team of both seniors and juniors, who were divided into two teams, with seniors and juniors in each. Eltham Druids’ Installation. The installation of Bro. E. Coad to the office of D.P. was made by Bro. Jeffares, D.P., at the fortnightly meeting of the Eltham Druids’ Lodge. A presentation was made to Bro. T. R. Bourke, who was recently married. The meeting concluded with a social evening.

' ELTHAM BOWLING SEASON. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. The official closing of the Eltham bowling season took place yesterday, when the trophies won during the season were presented. The championship cup went to C. E. Rowe, the president’s trophy to J. Harrison, Mr. A.- O. Casey’s trophy to A. W. Jackson, and the colt’s trophy to J. Streeter. The winning team in the day’s competition was Campbell, Nicholls, Bluett and Brown. The , runners-up were Franks, Peacock, Smith and Mumby. The president, Mr. A. R. Gower, referred to the successful season, in which players had shown a keen interest in the game. The greens would be open for play for a little longer.
