PASSENGER TRAIN DERAILED
LUCKY ESCAPE FROM ACCIDENT. CARRIAGE DRAGGED HALF A MILE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gore, March 31. Four carriages of yesterday’s southbound evening express did not reach Gore until the early hours of this morning owing to one of the carriages being derailed near McNab. The remaining six proceeded to their destination over an hour late. A visit to the scene revealed that the train had a remarkable escape from serious accident as the derailed carriages were carried over half a mile with the front bogie wheels off the rails. The train was travelling at about 40 miles an hour and the prompt action of a passenger enabled the guard to apply the emergency brake. No damage was done to the train and apart from the somewhat alarming experience to passengers in the derailed carriages no one was injured.
