The South African Rugby Board has discussed a request from New .South Wales, on behalf of the Rugby Unions of Australia, that South Africa should support an effort to alter the kick-into-touch rule or to obtain a special dispensation from the International Board.. Transvaal and the Eastern Provinces supported the proposal, but the boat'd rejected it by 11 votes to 4. Some expressed the opinion that the alteration would cause professionalism,, but those favouring it contended that it would brighten the game, as it had done in New Zealand.
