DISTRICT ACTIVITIES. HOCKEY CLUB REVIEW. A successful euchre and dance was -held in the hall last Friday evening, on behalf of the Business queen candidate, Miss J. McCullum. The music for the dance was played by Miss M. Glengarry, and Mr. Maindonald acted as master of ceremonies. During the evening an exhibition of step dancing was given by Misses K. Riley and Glengarry, who well deserved the applause it received. The prizes for the euchre were won by Miss B. McCullum 1 and Miss A. White 2, and Mr. W. Julian and Mr. Roy Radford won the men’s. The supper was supplied by the ladies’ committee. The members of the Pihama Ladies’ Hockey Club held their annual meeting on Monday evening, Mr. J. S. Tosland presiding over a representative attendance. He congratulated the club on its very fine performance during the past season, the club having played nine competition matches, winning eight and drawing, one and scored 34 goals against two. The , semi-final niatch at Stratford, against | Inglewood, was an exceptionally hard| one, two spells of 35 minutes being played, and ending in a draw. A further two seven minutes spells were played, resulting in no alteration of the score. Another two five minutes were played with still neither side improving, its position. A hit over the line was decided' on, and it was left to Miss M. Coneglan to put the issue beyond doubt for Pihama. The final and championship was played at Manaia against Rovers (Hawera), resulting in a win for Piliame by three goals to nil. Two of the club’s players, Misses J. Forsyth and M. Coneglan, were picked for the Taranaki ladles’ representative team. The chairman also congratulated the members on their very strong financial position, the club the year with a credit balance of £l7 Us lOd. The following were elected officers: Patron, Mr. C. Hallett; president,. Mr. JJ. S. Tosland; vice-presidants, Mesdames S. Forsyth and Riley; auditor, Mr. P. S. Riley. The position of captain, vice-captain and secretary were held over.

The club desires to thank all who helped during the season, especially the ladies for their assistance in running the dances, Mr. P. S. Riley for auditing the books, Mr. M. Freyne for his past services as coach, Mr. A. Stevenson for the use of his paddock, the referees, and the Press. . ..

A large number of ladies gathered at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Allam Campbell on Tuesday afternoon for the purpose of, saying good-bye to Miss Nola Smith, who is leaving shortly to take up her residence at Paeroa. She was the recipient df many useful gifts. Competitions were won by Misses J. Forsyth, J. Gallie, Mrs. A. Clarke, Misses Harrop and Atkins. On behalf of the ladies Mrs. J. Stevenson wished Miss Smith every happiness in her new home, Miss Smith suitably replied. A dainty afternoon tea was served. Misses Laura Knowles and E. Riley have returned from their holiday t at Patea.

Miss Nancy Hunt is visiting friends at Mokoia.

Mr. W. J. Dickson, who was a patient in the New Plymouth hospital, has returned home.

Mrs. Segar is an inmate of the Kaponga hospital.
