MATAU DISTRICT NEWS
CHILDREN’S CONCERT. A very enjoyable concert was given by tjie Matau school children on the 22nd inst. The concert, which was held in the afternoon, was .alrnost entirely organised by the children themselves, their teacher giving assistance only when asked for. There was no entrance fee charged, but the ladies of the district supplied afternoon tea as a small reward for the children’s efforts. The programme was as follows: Recitation, “Flurry-Scurry,” Norman Smith;' song, “The Farmyard,” the Matau school children; recitation, “Jack of the Ink Pot,” Avis McCoard; song, “Story Town,” Miss Smaill; recitation, “One, Two, Three,” Charlie Erikssen; song, “E Pari Ra,” Matau school children; songs, “Polly Put the Kettle On” and “Ba, Ba, Black Sheep,” the tinies; play-reading from “Alice in Wonderland,” Iris, Avis and Winnie McCoard ahd Alex Rolfe; “God Save the King.” The accbrhpaniments were played by the teacher, Miss Smaill. Master Bruce Rawlinson made a very capable chairman and master Dudley Smith a highly efficient secretary. Matau was well represented at a Wo - men’s . Division dance at Huiroa on Friday, last, all who attended spending a thoroughly enjoyable time. One of our local axemen, Mr. M. Jensen, is to be congratulated upon winning the big chop of the day at the Waitara sports last Saturday,
